Flower of the Day: 10.31.14

“There is a sacred aspect to our individual wounds. It is a messenger, a teacher that has come to give us the most delicate of lessons: forgiveness. There are messengers that are received with joy, because they are delivered in the form of happy situations and blessed encounters involving prosperity and achievement. But other messengers come in the form of sadness and challenging situations such as loss, illness, and failures. In these circumstances, our tendency is to close ourselves up to the message. However, certain karmas only get dissolved through difficult situations. Some of these circumstances are even predetermined before birth. They are like sacred agreements made with the objective of preventing the human entity from falling asleep, thus losing the opportunity to learn in this life.”

MANTRAS AND BHAJANS

“Music is a bridge across Eternity. It is the language of silence. Bhajans open the heart and quieten the mind and the silence that is born of this practice makes way for the spiritual experience. This experience will be relative to the purification that has already taken place. During the kirtan, energy is directed in a way that allows you to make contact with your need at that moment. Some will have other sensations; some will have access to insights and healing and others will have a glimpse of Unity.”

MANTRA, KIRTAN AND BHAJAN

Mantras are powerful sounds that activate different spiritual frequencies. They originate from Sanskrit and are prayers dating back to thousands of years ago. They reach far beyond the mind. The practice of repeating mantras has the name of japa and the practice of mantras to music has the name of kirtan. Bhajans are more elaborate, longer songs and can be in any language. Prem Baba, humorously calls devotional music in Portuguese ‘Brazilian bhajans’. But the name is not important what matters is to open up your heart to receive what these beautiful songs and prayers have to offer.
