Flower of the Day: 10.20.14

“I see many spiritual seekers who disregard the possibility of somatization, developing physical symptoms due to spiritual or emotional distress. They believe that everything occurs in the subtle bodies, so they don’t take enough care of their physical bodies. The opposite is also true: some people are so identified with their bodies that they fall into despair when they cannot find the causes of their symptoms. The middle way is of sensibility. When you are on the path to self-realization, you may have transcendental experiences as well as challenging ones, but it all depends on the amount of blockages you carry.”

MANTRAS AND BHAJANS

“Music is a bridge across Eternity. It is the language of silence. Bhajans open the heart and quieten the mind and the silence that is born of this practice makes way for the spiritual experience. This experience will be relative to the purification that has already taken place. During the kirtan, energy is directed in a way that allows you to make contact with your need at that moment. Some will have other sensations; some will have access to insights and healing and others will have a glimpse of Unity.”

MANTRA, KIRTAN AND BHAJAN

Mantras are powerful sounds that activate different spiritual frequencies. They originate from Sanskrit and are prayers dating back to thousands of years ago. They reach far beyond the mind. The practice of repeating mantras has the name of japa and the practice of mantras to music has the name of kirtan. Bhajans are more elaborate, longer songs and can be in any language. Prem Baba, humorously calls devotional music in Portuguese ‘Brazilian bhajans’. But the name is not important what matters is to open up your heart to receive what these beautiful songs and prayers have to offer.
