very year, Sri Prem Baba offers a set of satsangs in the Sachcha Dham Ashram in Rishikesh, India. People from all over the world make this pilgrimage in order to become inspired by the Guru’s words and have spiritual experiences on the banks of the Ganges River, in the foothills of the Himalayas. The season began on the final day of January this year, and the was hall packed with seekers. Shortly after opening the work, Prem Baba invited the disciples and devotees to reflect upon the feeling of pilgrimage—that which moves each one to leave the comfort zone of their everyday life and embark upon this trip to the North of India in order to listen to a spiritual master.

”May the eternal source of Sachcha bring the answers to our questions and attend to our true requests in this field of prayer. It is important that each one asks him or herself: What is it that moves me in this direction? What brings me to embark upon this pilgrimage—whether it’s just moving towards the computer, as we’re now transmitting the satsangs live, or whether it’s taking trains, planes and automobiles to physically arrive here, a place so far away?” the Guru asked.

“The one who makes a pilgrimage is listening to the heart, even though they have doubt. Know that it was your heart that brought you here. “

As he contemplated the seekers spread across the hall, Sri Prem Baba gave some hints as to the elements that can facilitate transformation in each one of us. “Pilgrimage is an act of faith. As skeptical as the pilgrim is, this thread of faith leads him or her to move forward, inspired by a stirring within them…

The one who makes a pilgrimage is listening to the heart, even though they have doubt. Know that it was your heart that brought you here. So…for what? I would like for each one of you to reflect upon this in order to find your own answer inside. You may or may not know the answer to this—to why your heart brought you here.” And Sri Prem Baba went on:

“I have heard that some are here in search of silence. This is difficult, because India is not a silent place. Others say that they want to get a taste of the divine within, and the miracle of transcending the conditioned mind in order to discover: Who am I? What did I come here to do in this world? It’s a longing to understand the game of life, the touch of grace that amplifies the understanding that goes beyond the ego.

To understand the shine of the stars, even as we remain stuck here on Earth. The river has a mechanical movement that brings it to the Ocean. Perhaps you haven’t seen God. Perhaps you’ve never loved, or you’ve only had a few glimpses of love. But those who initiate the pilgrimage in some way have heard their heart—have heard their intuition—and have thus brought themselves closer to unconditional love. They want to reach the source of this loving nature and feel the grace that frees fear—the antithesis of love. Only grace can free us from fear.”

“This is the moment when Lord Shiva came down to the human world to give his grace (darshan) in the form of knowledge so that each one of us might walk the subtle paths to the meeting with the true Being.”

This is how Sri Prem Baba’s season began, governed by the full moon in the Sachcha Ashram, where the eternal spirit of Guru Sachcha Maharaj lives on. Little by little, the moon will wane until the darkest night of the year, the apex of winter in the Northern Hemisphere, when Mahashivaratri is celebrated: the 14th of February.

“It is not possible to control life. This is an illusion of the ego. There is something greater that carries us. Each of us is a channel that is able to access divine knowledge, which is in us, not outside of us. Let’s begin this season by being aware of that which moves us. The period of Mahashivaratri can provide the meeting of the masculine and the feminine within each one of us. It can open the paths so that we can understand the greater meaning of this pilgrimage we have undertaken: the pilgrimage to attain self-knowledge.”
